Comments: Tom and Billy wanted to drag Brian and I out to The Vineyards so we relinquished the format and brought them to Bellport. The format they chose was best ball-best ball. By the scores, it appears Brian played by himself while Tom, Billy and John sat in the lot drinking. Brian shot a 2 under 34 on the front nine with birdies on 4 and nine. Team Brian and John won the front nine (I wonder why). The back nine Brian came back to earth (a bit). Team Brian and John closed out the match on 15 leaving a three hole press. At that point Tom and Billy lead the back nine by 2. Team Brian and John evened the back nine on 17 and went up 2 on the press. They took 18 to win the points. The wind was blowing and it was raining for most of the back nine. We made it through and were glad to survive. It was a tough round for John, Billy and Tom BUT, we did have fun!!

Comments: Best Ball- Well Billie Bob single handily did what no other team could do! He took down the leaders. Bud had a tough day and so did Joe. J&S were up 2 after 5, then down 1 going into 9 based on Billie's sand and putting; J&S parred 9 to win hole and halve the nine. B&B went up 2 after 12 back to even thru 15, thanks to Steve and Billie boggied 16 with a stroke to go up one. 17 was a thriller. J&S had 150 in after drives into left rough. Billie had 165 in deep rough. Hit a hell of a shot landing 15 feet past hole. J&S chipped within 8 feet laying 3, missed putts and Billie did not for parr and won match. 18 for the press J finally hit a drive, good second shot and finished with a parr to beat the rest with 6. to win press. Great pressure packed round. Better days ahead for Joe & Bud.

Comments: The format on this hot and humid day was best ball. The front 9 was the Brian and John show. Brian shot 40 and John a 45. They were up 6 after the front nine. They closed out the match on 13. Then came the back nine and the press..... Mike hits his tee shot on the par 3 10th and misses a hole in one by an inch!! Easy birdie tap in. That seemed to ignite Mike and Dennis. They stayed up one on the back and press until John's par on 10 tied it It stayed that way until 15 when Brian's par gave team Brian and John the lead. Mike par's par (net 4) on 15 brought it back to even. At this point John's back gave out and, though he played, he was a non factor. Brian's shoulders are killing him from the extra weight he had to carry. Mike and Dennis both had par on 17. They won that and Dennis' par on 18 won them the back nine and press. Mike and Dennis both shot 42 on the back (much different than the front 9) and Brian shot 41. John....well we won't get into that! It was a great match and we all had a lot of laughs.

Comments: The format was Best Ball.
In the early going Hank & Steve had the advantage going +2 after 4.Then on 5 Mike made 6' putt for a birdie and that started a surge for Chris & Mike and they took the front +2. Chris had another excellent round shooting 39 on the front, sinking 3 putts from over 20'. They won the back and the match on 16 leaving a 2 hole press. 17 was halved and Chris made boggie on 18 to win the press. It was a close match and the play of Chris carried the day. It was great playing with Steve and Hank and Swan Lake was very playable.

Comments: Holbrook- Best Ball. THe phantom write up was correct in that the Tony & Rich team did sink 50 foot putts unfortunately for them Joe had a hot round on the front with a 40. WE won the nine up 2. Steve had his normal late start but kicked in on the back and could have shot a 40 but screwed up the last hole which didn't matter since the match was over 15 and the press was done on 17. The team of Joe & Steve are truly the ham & egg KINGS. We had a lot of laughs and the beer was great! Boy do we love HOLBROOK!!!!

Comments: Well, since John's back has been an issue, Brian and John picked the Best Ball format. Steve and Hank picked Swan Lake as the venue. John and Brian took holes 1 and 6 to go up 2. Steve and Hank bounced back to win 8 and 9 to even the match. Steve and Hank thought they would win 10 until Brian decided to drain a 50 footer for birdie and halve the hole. Steve and Hank took 11 and it stayed that way until the 13th. Match was even until team Brian and John took the lead on 17 and halved 18 for the win. It was an amazing match with Hank and John playing well the front 9 and Steve and Brian taking over the back with Steve CRUSHING straight drives and Brian shooting a 37 back nine. Fantastic company and a great day all around. These guys are a very welcome addition to the league!!! (Except for the fact they brought us to the end of the earth to play!)

Comments: We played at Holbrook CC and the format was Best Ball Tiebreaker.
The match was the tale of "Three Cities". Chris & Mike won the front +3. The back was a different story. Den & Mike won holes 10 - 13 to take a 4up lead on the back and +1 for the match. And then the match changed again...Chris & Mike won 3 of the next 4 holes to close-out the match on 17 but they were 1 down going into 18. Chris & Mike each had a lost ball and Den made par to win the back and as it turned out the 1 hole press.
After the match we we're talking and we all agreed that it didn't make any sense that a team could win the 18th and get as many points as winning the entire match. We felt that winning the match should be worth 3 points and a press 1. This needs to be addressed by us all.

Comments: the match was a version of "the good, the bad and the ugly". Hank and Steve played good, we played bad and the result was ugly. We played Joe and Steve' favorite game, best ball, best ball. Steve's drives were 275 to 290 down the middle all day, on the greens of par 5's in 2 , was even par going into 9 and shot a 38 on the front. Hank was very consistent and his putting and chipping were great. We lost the front on 7 and were down 8 points at the turn. Hank and Steve did not play the back as good but we were even worse. The rumors that Steve has some errant shots was definitely not true in our match. Both Stevie's and ha no played a good game. Beautiful day for golf. Too bad our game did not resemble golf.

Comments: The format was Best Ball.
The conditions were great...cloud cover all day and low winds, but most of all it was the Chris Show. His laser like approach shots and putting were amazing.
Chris & Mike got off to an early lead when Mike sunk a 15' putt for a par on the 1st to go +1. It stayed that way through much of the front side with Chris & Mike taking the front +2. Rich was playing well keeping them in the match. On the 11th. Chris, Rich & Tony tees shots were in the water and Mike won the hole with a par to go up +1. On the rest of the back every time Rich or Tony were in position to win a hole Chris answered with a shot or putt that either won or halved the hole. On 17 Mike won the hole with a par and the front, back and total went to Chris & Mike leaving a 1 hole press. No better for Rich & Tony there..they both hit their 3rd shots into the hazard and Chris made a par to complete the sweep.
After the match Rich & Tony were happy to be able to take one for the league allowing Mike & Chris to close the gap on Joe & Steve.

Comments: a hot humid day at Swan Lake-with Steve and Hank loaded for bear ! The game was Best ball tie breaker. Steve had his British Open Cap on and they could not wait to take on the old guys.........talk about horses for courses, they knew where to hit and Steve was on fire hitting towering 300+ yard drives. When he was down (not often) Hank picked him up. They hammed and egged it whereas Billy E and Tom mostly dropped the egg. Tom was off all day and could not get used to the super slow greens and Billy had trouble with his iron game....no excuses we were out played by these guys who are coming on strong. If they suggest playing on Swan Lake, go practice at your local carpet store on their thickest plush carpet...........we obviously hated to have such a poor showing but enjoyed playing with these two nice guys.

Comments: Best Ball- Best Ball. What a match!!!! Mike & Dennis chose BB & BB and that was the right choice! Steve had is normal slow start but it took him 12 holes to figure it out and Dennis & Mike were playing great. Dennis's drives were long and straight!! Joe & Steve took the front 9 w/3 pts. but were down on the back 9 all the way until the 18th. The match was tied going into 17. Joe & Steve hit the faiway and Mike & Dennis were wide in the rough. They laid up. Joe was 145yds out and skulled an 8 iron but it had enough height and speed to bounce over the mounds and luckily land just off the green. Steve hit the middle of the green. Joe parred and Steve Boggied and Mike &Dennis scored 5 & 6 to lose 2 and go dormie on the match but still 1 up on the back nine. All hit good drives on 18. Steve on green in 3 Mike & Dennis 4 on green Joe in Sand in 3. Steve parred, Joe Boggied and Mike & Dennis had 6 and 7. The match was over and many drinks followed. Great nerve wrecking match!

Comments: Bud and Bill chose Best Ball-Tie Breaker for play at The Vineyards. It was a beautiful day and the wind was slightly up thru out the round. Bill and Bud went up 1 on the first hole with Tom and Billy winning the next 3. Bud and Bill came to life and took the next 3. The 8th hole was won by Tom & Billy bring the match to even going into the 9th. Very exciting.........everyone on the green but Tom rolled in a nice birdie putt to go up 1 in the match. On to the back and the match was pretty much even with the lead going to Bud and Bill to up 1 on the 16th. The 17th was crucial and Tom & Billy both had pars with Bud and Bill going with a par and bogey ! Tom and Billy are up 1 on the back nine and 2 up on the overall. Bill struggled with the Fescue all day and did not avoid it on the 18th. Tom, Bud and Bill were getting strokes on the 18th and the finish was not pretty but some double bogeys are better than others....Tom rolled in his put for 6 for 5 and Bud and Bills 7's did them in. We had a nice day but the poor Billy was with a hooker all day (not a 2 legged one) but the club in his hand wanted to left.. Through the frustration it was a nice day

Comments: Best Ball-Best Ball format. The day started out beautifully, Weather was great and the wind wasn't blowing too hard. Joe & Steve got out of the gate quick and were +11 points at the turn. Mike was having some problems and Mr. Clutch putter Chris was slightly off. Then early in the back nine Joe's wheels fell off- completely! and Chris & Mike fought back! The press started on 14 and Chris & Mike took the lead. It stayed that way through the 18. Steve played great and kept Team Steve & Joe above water as we limped in with a one point victory on the back. The rough and fescue here is a nightmare. You hit the ball wide and your in HELL! By the way the round took 5 1/2 hours!! We spent 2 hours looking for balls.

Comments: It was beautiful day at the majestic links at Bellport CC.( ok maybe a few rain drops). Many league members showed up to keep and eye on 2 important matches. Team#8 Denis and Mike vs. Team #7 Hank and Steve and the Commish in his mano y mano Seniors Match. (Which he won on 18). Congratulations Joe. Introductions were made on the first tee and best ball was chosen as the format. Hank came out on fire with pars on 1-3. Coupled with Steve’s birdie on three, Team #8 found themselves in an early hole ( what else is new?). Mike’s birdie on 5 was a step in the right direction and almost nullified by an amazing Hank second shot from a bunker over a tree from a trap on the 7th hole. Team #7 held on to take the front nine. Team 8 found a grove as we started the back nine but Team 7 kept it close.
Dennis made 2 clutch pars on 16 and 17 giving team 8 the back nine and a one hole lead in the match. Team 8 could not hold on to the lead, as a bogey by Team 7 was enough to halve the match and a 4/4 split on points. The golf had great moments but surely could use some improving. The company was great and new friendships were formed. Oh and by the way Steve hits the ball really far.

Comments: Tommy took us to the Vineyards and promptly put Steve in Jail! 2 lost balls first hole and the driver stayed in the bag. Tom & Billie took a 2 up after two. Looking to be a long day! Team Joe & Steve rallied next two holes to halve match after four. Joe's putter got hot and we went up 4 after nine. Then Joe's drive went South and Steve kicked it in. Back nine was all Steve. Tommy had his normal good game and Billie could'nt get any putts to drop except on 15 when he out did Joe with a birdie. Speaking about birdies Joe unfortunately hit a bird off the tee when he hit a grounder. Beautiful day
great company and watch out for this ham & egg team!

Comments: The format was bestball.
Steve opened the festivities with a 320 yard drive that split the fairway. Rich & Tony both said HOLY CRAP at the same time.
Unfortunately for the Steve/Hank team that was Steve's last good drive.
Rich and Tony played well and won the front plus 5
The back nine was much closer. Tony birdied 14 to win the hole. A key hole - 16 was won by Rich/Tony with bogeys when the rough at the green got Hank. It took him 3 shots to advance the ball 6 inches. (Been there done that)
The match and press both ended at 17 when Rich parred the hole.
At the bar, you could feel the pain. Hank said he would need some Prozac to get over this one.- Rich

Comments: Format was Best Ball Tiebreaker
Just to get the ruff out of the way. It was mowed but we spent about 1/2 hour looking for balls...much to long.
On the front side the match went back and forth with Chris & Mike +1 after 6 holes and +2 at the turn.
The back side was were it got interesting. Bud & Billy won 4 of the next 6 holes to to go +2 on the back and all even for the overall. In the end it came down to 18 as it so often does. There was no press so whoever wins 18 wins the last 4 points.
Mike was down the middle out past the traps and Chris was in the rough but playable. Bud had a lot of issues and was not really in the hole. Mike & Chris were on in 4 but Billy hit his 4th shot pin high but well right of the green and that's when the rough reared it's ugly head again and after a prolonged search the ball was not found and the match was over. A really tough way to loose. It was a beautiful warm day and the 19th hole was great as usual.

Comments: After what seemed to be a month of rainy days we played our match at Bellport
The format was best ball chosen by John and Brian.
You all know the expression we woke a sleeping giant, well guess what Brian woke up.
Before we even started the match Brian told Rich on the putting green it's all about putting, WOW was he right.
It started on the 3rd hole with a 40 footer for birdie and it never stopped. We lost the front by 2 and hoped the back would get better. On ten everyone was in the water except for Tony who hit a great shot to the ladies tees. Advantage Tony and Rich.. John dropped his ball in the drop area and it landed in a hole and he asked if he could move and we said NO (big mistake ) John sticks the pin and sinks his bogey put and halved Tony . Rich and tony just never put anything together while Brian and John ham and egged every hole.
The knife to the heart was on 18. Team Rich and Tony had a shot at one point if we halve the press , and we looked good, John had issues and Brian was in the water. Rich had a par put from 20 feet so we were thought we had a one point moral victory. NOT... Brian steps up and puts his ball a few inches form the hole and we were done....
Of course drinks were the highlight and even Bud showed up to hear the trash talk.......See you soon Tony

Comments: the match was best ball total. It was an interesting day with the rough giving everyone some difficult lies. Bill and Bud won the front on the 7th hole and were up 6 points. The back nine was back and forth until 16 when John and Brian were up 2 points. And Bill and Bud were plus 3 for the match. That is when John ran into a wall with the rough taking an 8 splitting the hole so we won the front and the match. Going into 18 Brian and John were up 2 points and we are in the press mode. The rough continued to cause problems and John got another 8 and Brian had a bogey. Bill pared 18 and Bud had a 7 for a net 6 tiding the back and winning the press. The last 4 holes the wind was howling and it was cold. The bar looked good at that point.

Comments: The format was Bestball.
The rough at Bellport reared its ugly head.
All of us but Tom were brought to our knees by it.
It wasn't pretty watching Billy take 4 shots to get out of it on the 18th fairway or Rich to take 3 to get on the green from 4 feet away on 17.
The match came down to 18. Rich and Tony needed to win the hole.
Billy and Tony were out it after their third shots.
Tom was 60 yards out in the fairway in three and hit one of his patented low wedges about 15 feet from the hole. Rich was lying 3 in the heavy rough about 10 yards off the green. He needed to get up ad down and hoped Tom would miss his putt.
Rich hit a good flop shot but it kept rolling passed the pin about 20 feet away up against the first cut of thick rough. Not sure what club to use, Rich used the putter but it was not even close. Tom two putted but the match was over.
Tom was definitely the man keeping his ball in the fairway the whole day.

Comments: If you have not played at Colonial Springs since it went private, you will be in for a treat. The course was beautiful and at 72.1 - 133, it was a bear.
Oh yea, the match...Chris and Mike got off to a fast start, up 2 after 2 and it pretty much continued that way with them being up 4 at the turn. Brian didn't have is normally great game.
Not much changed on the back. Chris & Mike closed out the overall match 6 & 5. So what was left was the 5 hole press and the back nine. They won the back 2 & 1 and the press came down to the last hole. Unfortunately, both John & Brian hit their second shots into the tall grass and that was that.
Chris carried much of the front nine and Mike shot 41 on the back to do most of the damage Even though the match wasn't close...the company was great and it was a beautiful day.
We played Best Ball Tiebreaker.

After 17 the match was even and Bud and Bill were up 1 for the press. Hole 18 was split. Bill and Bud won the press and the back was split. The company was good but I hope we all play better golf in the future.

Comments: It was a beautiful Friday at Bellport The format was best ball total. The match was even thru 4 ,then Bud and Bill began a great ham and egg run and Rich and Tony had a shit run with more sevens than a hot craps game.
After 9 Bill and Bud won the front and were up 6 at the turn for the 18. Rich and Tony woke up and battled back with their own ham and egg run. As amazing as possible we ended up on the 18th tee box even for the back and even for the press as Bill and Bud won the 18 on 17. So they had 4 points in hand if they win the 18th they take 8 points and our weekend is ruined, this was pressure. All four players hit good tee shots. Shots to get to the green were also good . So here it is the pressure putts begin , and Rich steps up and sinks a perfect par putt to win the hole while everyone else bogeyed to take 4 points for the Rich Tony team. I still don't know what the hell happened but we halved the match. Hats off to old man river Oops I mean Bud for a great 85...... In the end the drinks were great.. see you soon Tony

Comments: We played Best Ball at Bellport, the apparent club of choice for most of our league members.....the last time Tom E played here as a guest last year he backed over some members pull cart and bought him his early Christmas gift for his error in backing up before looking....where the hell is the warning beep beep on the clubs golf carts.......now on to the match...we played Mike D and Dennis who appeared ready to go as Tom E pulled into the parking lot on 2 wheels, no practice swings or putts with minutes to our 12:30 tee time....no problem Billy and Tommy were +3 after 5 holes looking good, but little did I realize Billy required a Budweiser every 3 holes and we started to falter and ended up +1 winning the front. Not to worry but Billy never said he was thirsty and therefore did not stop at the restaurant/bar to refill his Budweiser requirement (Tom E was drinking water.trying to be the responsible partner) but Billy did not say he needed a boost so we went on to the 10th. We went +2 thru 12 and Mike and Dennis came alive getting the older guys back to even after 14 and the dog fight began. Tom E got it back to +1 on 16 but the lack of Budweisers had a resounding devastating effect on Billy and Tommy........but we managed to keep the match to Even thru 18 winning the front and the overall by 1. Mike D said it best "that it was an enjoyable round" Dennis struggled but was his usual gentleman self...Tom and Billy hung in there and were most fortunate by halving 18 to win the match. Good to be back guys, had a lot of fun.

Comments: This was the Steve & John Show! Brian giving a ton of strokes and not having his normal A game, but his team mate carried the heavy load. John was hitting the ball long and straight and so was Steve. Steve and Joe finally took the lead on the front nine at 8 and won the front up 2. John & Brian jumped ahead on 10 and 11 only to have Joe (finally) sink a bird to win 12. John & Brian took and kept the lead until 16, then Steve and Joe ham & Egged three parrs to win the match. Still Too Cold at Bellport! but the company and competition was great.!

Comments: The format was best ball. Rich & Tony got off to quick start winning 3 out of the first 4 holes and won the front easily. The back was a different story. Everyone shit the bed! Dennis & Mike won the back on the 17th hole. The match was up for grabs on 18 with Rich & Tony up 1. The 18th was halved with double bogies. I won't go into details but it was quite ugly. Pretty sad ending but Rich & Tony took the match & 6 points

Comments: We played the match at the Vineyard GC (Best Ball). It was the initial match of the season for both teams. Tom & Billy couldn't get it going on the front, while Chris and Mike took a commanding +5 after nine. They continued their good play and closed-out the overall match 7&6, which set up a 6 hole press.
Did I mention the wind conditions...on the back 9 the wind was howling with gusts around 40 mph. It was hard to even stand over some of the putts. However, the press went back and forth, with Tom & Billy finding their game. It came down to the 18th where Tom, getting a stroke, won it with a 5/4. Chris and Mike won the front, back and overall. We all had a great time.

Comments: Well the new guys got initiated into the League! Front nine Joe & Steve overwhelmed +3 after nine. We felt all we had to do was coast! Well then Steve & Hank decided it was time to play. Steve hit drives straight and true 300 + yards and began to figure out the putts and Hank was steady as a rock hit long drives (by our standards but well short of Steve) and chipping and putting lights out. Well we underwhelmed to lose the back nine and eighteen only to salvage the press for a split and a "kiss your sister" event. Gentlemen watch out for this team!!! Great fun and great set of guys joined our league.
